Sometimes I don’t think that people really understand me.
My need for quiet and space is often misconstrued as me being insensitive, unwelcoming or standoffish. Maybe it’s silly of me to wonder why others feel the need to judge my distance.
They are entitled to those feelings, right?

People are so focused on what’s being taken from them that we fail to realize what we already have staring us in the face. When I stopped worrying about other people and what they were or weren’t doing, my life became less chaotic. When I stopped trying to look like the next girl and started loving who I saw in the mirror, my confidence was boosted. We have to start somewhere. Be aware that who you are and what you have is enough. God and the Universe come together to make greatness not mistakes!

Young black girl, you are beautiful. Please don’t let the media trick you into thinking any different. Caramel. Mocha. Coffee. Ebony. There’s nothing wrong with your makeup, just don’t forget to love your features without contouring. There’s nothing wrong with your Indian wave but please don’t begin hating your natural curl pattern because of it. There’s nothing wrong with being proud of being mixed but please don’t save “black” for last in a whispery voice when you should be proud to be just that. Dominicans. Haitians. African-Americans. Belizeans. Afro-Latinos: whatever you may be.. We come from the same. Embrace that. Don’t let the different titles divide us. And black men, don’t degrade us. Never should any word that discriminates against black women leave your lips when most of your mothers look like the women you’re destroying. Black History Month. ✊ (at just sayin..)
